Open Cinema's survival exists through its donations and its members. Donation money goes towards renting experimental and underground films from Co-Operatives like Canyon Cinema and other outlets, such as, university libraries and other academic resource centers. These films are expensive to rent and difficult to see. Open Cinema members along other Lawrence community members are trying to put together a showcase of films for a separate one-time weekend event in late September. This event will be called Light from the Underground. The focus of the event will only be on experimental and underground films, not on local films and videos. The goal of Light from the Underground is to expand people’s awareness of film as art and inspire local artists, as well as the public in general, with new ideas on the medium. ...so if you would like to donate money to help support Open Cinema and "Light from the Underground," please do so by using Pay Pal. This money helps keep Open Cinema alive.
Anyone who donates $25 or more automatically will be a member of Open Cinema! *All donation money will directly go back into renting 16mm films. Support Open Cinema, buy a T-shirt! |
